Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Convert text, code, and binary files to Base64 format and decode them back to plain text. Includes URL-safe encoding for web parameters and API tokens.
Understanding Base64 Encoding & Use Cases
What Is Base64 and Why Is It Used?
Base64 is a binary-to-text encoding scheme that represents binary data in an ASCII string format using 64 printable characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, and /).
It is designed to transmit binary data (such as images, PDF documents, or cryptographic hashes) across network channels that only reliably support plain ASCII text, such as email protocols (MIME), HTTP headers, and JSON API payloads.
Standard Base64 vs. URL-Safe Base64 (RFC 4648)
Standard Base64 includes characters like + and /, which have reserved special meanings in URL query strings and URI paths.
URL-Safe Base64 replaces + with - and / with _, and strips trailing = padding. This variant is standard for JWT authentication tokens and web safe identifiers.
