Understanding Fluid Typography with CSS clamp()

The Math Behind clamp(min, val, max)

The native CSS clamp() function takes three parameters: a lower boundary, a dynamic preferred value, and an upper boundary.

To smoothly interpolate size between two screen widths (minWidth to maxWidth), we calculate the slope of the line:

slope = (maxSize - minSize) / (maxWidth - minWidth)
yIntersection = -minWidth * slope + minSize
preferred = yIntersection + (slope * 100)vw

Why Fluid Scaling Beats Media Queries

Traditional responsive design relies on discrete breakpoints (@media (min-width: 768px)), causing awkward text wrapping snaps whenever a user resizes their window or rotates their tablet.

With fluid typography, headers and line heights scale continuously across every device pixel ratio. Furthermore, expressing the static intercept in rem units ensures that user browser accessibility zoom settings are fully respected.
