Rules of Connect Four
Connect Four is a two-player connection strategy game played on a vertical 7-column, 6-row grid. Players take turns dropping their colored discs from the top into any column that is not already full. The disc falls straight down, occupying the lowest available space within that column. The first player to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of four consecutive discs wins the game.
Core Winning Strategies
Control the Center
The central 4th column connects with far more possible winning combinations than edge columns. Always contest center column dominance early.
Create Two-Way Traps
Set up forks where two different 4-in-a-row threats can be completed on your next turn, forcing an unavoidable win.
Block Opponent Threats
Watch out for your opponent assembling 3-in-a-row. Block them immediately before they establish an unblockable open-ended trap.
Frequently Asked Questions
How smart is the computer AI?
The AI uses the Minimax search algorithm with heuristic evaluation. On Easy mode it plays casually with random opportunities, while Hard mode calculates multiple moves ahead with alpha-beta pruning.
Can two people play on the same phone or computer?
Yes! Select the "2 Players" mode toggle to alternate turns locally on the same device without needing multiple accounts.
What happens if all 42 slots are filled without 4-in-a-row?
If the entire 7x6 board fills completely with no connected four, the game automatically concludes as a Draw.
