Why CSS is a Render-Blocking Resource
By default, web browsers treat external stylesheet links (<link rel="stylesheet">) as synchronous, render-blocking dependencies. Until all CSS files are fully downloaded, parsed, and converted into the CSS Object Model (CSSOM), the browser cannot paint any pixels to the screen.
Minifying CSS stylesheets directly cuts transmission payload size over TCP network links, allowing the browser to construct the CSSOM earlier and accelerating the First Contentful Paint (FCP) and Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) benchmarks.
Micro-Optimizations Built Into This Minifier
Hexadecimal Compaction
Six-digit hex colors with repeated pairs (#ffffff, #003366) are shortened to 3 characters (#fff, #036).
Zero-Unit Elimination
Units attached to zero values like 0px, 0em, and 0rem are safely reduced to bare 0.
Leading Zero Stripping
Decimals under one like 0.5rem or 0.75s drop the leading zero to become .5rem and .75s.
Delimiter Semicolons
The trailing semicolon immediately preceding the closing curly brace ;} is superfluous according to CSS specifications and is safely removed.
